The Narblog has been quiet for a while now. My new responsibilities on Narberth Borough Council make it difficult to continue this blog. I think my time is better spent working on the job to which I've been elected. Also, there are inherent conflicts of interest that prevent me from being a neutral observer.
For those who would like to keep reading a Narberth-oriented blog, Former Councillor Matt Pettigrew has started one at www.narberthusa.com. Also, the Narberth Civic Association has started a community blog at blog.narberthpa.org. On this blog, any Narberth resident can sign up to post, report community happenings, and interact with other citizens.
Something new...
During the election season, I had the opportunity to walk the borough. I knocked on doors and spoke with many of you. I was so impressed with the collective talent and capability of our town's citizens. Narberth is strong, but it can be stronger. When neighbors share talents, buy services from each other, find common interests, volunteer, and make new friends then our community becomes stronger.
To help foster these goals, I have created the Narblist at www.narblist.org. This is a Narberth-oriented classifieds that looks very similar to Craigslist. This is an opportunity to:
- share your skills
- find collaborators
- advertise your business
- announce local events
- offer lessons
- buy, sell, trade
- and anything else you can thing of!
The Narblist provides a platform for Narberth's volunteer organizations to engage members of our community and strengthen their ranks.
To facilitate access and visibility of the Narblist, weekly post summaries will be printed and put up at the train station and other off-line community bulletin boards. This will allow members of our community who may not live the blogging/Craigslist lifestyle to participate.
Just as the Narblog followed in the footsteps of the "Our Town" newspaper, so the Narblist follows in a long tradition of Narberth-oriented classified handouts. They have helped our town organize an incredible volunteer culture for over 100 years.
The Narblist is a new experiment to bring our community closer together. I look forward to your help in making it a success. Thanks!
