Narberth Speaks Up: “Let our kids walk to school!”
Small, walkable, close-knit Narberth is protesting the Lower Merion School District’s latest redistricting proposal which busses the kids and divides the community. The “NARBERTH WALKS TOGETHER” group is organizing a walk to demonstrate the importance of keeping Narberth together and of allowing our children to walk to school. Parents, children, grandparents and supporters in our community will walk from Downtown Narberth to Lower Merion High School on Sunday, November 9th, 2008 at 2pm.
Despite being centrally located, and despite 100% sidewalk coverage, Narberth has borne the brunt of the bussing burden in Lower Merion for many years. North Narberth children grades K-5 are currently bussed to one of the farthest elementary schools, and the farthest middle school. The latest “Draft 2” redistricting plan from Lower Merion would increase that burden even more. Narberth grades 9-12 would be bussed to far away Harriton High School instead of the high school they could walk to, Lower Merion High School. It also introduces a new division line cutting through the middle of the
small community of Narberth.
NARBERTH WALKS TOGETHER seeks to educate the community and the school district about Narberth’s unique small town values; Narberth is a small, walkable community, and having kids walk to school is good for the environment and for their health. For further information, contact the communications director for Narberth Walks Together by sending an email to

Why walk without a clear plan for redistricting? This is a waste of time without a clear agenda.
