Local resident, Jody Piltz-Seymour, has been involved with the Lower Merion School District re-districting plan and how it will affect Narberth residents. Last week, concerned parents met and came to consensus on the issues.
Current Proposal from LMSD - N. Narberth students attend Belmont Hills Elementary and Welsh Valley Middle School. N. Narberth students attend Lower Merion High School while the rest of their Welsh Valley peers move on to Harriton High School. Penn Valley Elementary students will attend Bala Cynwyd Middle School and then, depending on districting lines, some would attend LMHS and others to Harriton HS.
Parents Plan A -
"The majority of attendants felt that it was more important to have continuity between middle and high school, rather than elementary and middle school. Most felt that it would be easier to transition students to a new peer group at 6th grade rather than at 9th grade. The first choice of the majority of attendants was for North Narberth students to attend Bala Cynwyd Middle School and then move on to Lower Merion HS. The small group of Penn Valley students destined for Harriton in the current school board proposal would attend Welsh Valley MS and continue on to Harriton. These two groups of students would therefore have continuity of their school communities from 6th to 12th grade. "
Parents Plan B -
"An alternative plan would keep the current school board proposal but still allow North Narberth students the option to choose to attend Harriton High School if they prefer to stay with their school peers."
